...I was kind of wondering why you weren't posting anything for a while. They look super-fantastic painted man! I thought they might look a bit busy painted but they just look ...well, awesome.

As much as I’d like to sink my teeth into the next outlandish conversion, I need to spend more time working on more basic chores first, namely, building additional daemon troop packs. I’d like to start running some mono-themed daemon lists – or at least, lists more focused on particular powers and alliances. To that end, I’ve begun working up another pack of Bloodletters:

… and Horrors:

These units will closely resemble those of their peers already called to the service of the Ruinous Powers:

… although I will have to work up ideas for icons and for a Changeling, which will be fun.

And in the meantime, for those of you interested in seeing something with a bit more pop, I did have a chance last week to play a game against Alex's gorgeously colorful Tau:

This occasion gave me an opportunity to snap off a few pictures of the (more-or-less) painted Bloodletters on the field of battle, hunting:

… killing stuff (in this case, Alex’s shamefully proxied Devilfish – he had found himself one short when he unpacked his case):

… and generally posing:

As always, thanks for looking. Feedback, criticism, comments are always welcome.

That proxied devilfish model was sweet.

Fred didn't get its good side.

If I run it again I will put in another cross-piece where the drones are. I forgot how wide it is there.

I've been having fun.

I'm putting some work into more slave-soldiers for the Harrowed -- that's not the fun part.

I've also been working on the possessed city terrain -- specifically the corrupted shrine. I find myself wanting to do things ... bad things ... to the eagle-headed jutting prow/piece commanding the center panel of the shrine. So first I assembled it as GW and the Emperor's loyal subjects intended. And then I burned open the brow of the figurehead:

The idea is to have a major daemon bursting out of this once sacred bastion:

To which end I've begun grafting in greenstuff and wire, to form the skeleton ...

... of a multi-headed daemon using the bird heads from the Spawn kit (shorn of their silly looking feathers).

And:

That was a good start. There's still a long way to go on that part of the piece.

Meanwhile, I tried to figure out what to do about the most dominant aspect of the structure: its neo-gothic high-fascist eagle armor plating. I couldn't let that stand. After all, the act of possessing an imperial shrine would be a violently wrenching process. So I knew I was going to have to attack the thing. The shrine's "skin" is made of pretty thick plastic, though. I contemplated taking drills, a dremel, saws, files, an exacto knife to it. But I didn't want the thing to look cut or gouged or sawed up.... so much as warping from within, buckling and bubbling with change.

So I decided on another approach. When some warm weather coincided with one of Mary-Elise's business trip, I decided the fates were aligning and took the panel of the shrine outside and went to work on it with a box of matches . Selectively applying flame, I softened the plastic in patches, mushed it around a bit (with an old butter knife and a coat hanger wire), plucked at it (with a pair of tweezers), and generally desecrated the thing.

*sigh. Remember when we were kids and we used to set plastic soldiers on fire in our backyards? Remember that smoke, that smell? I expect it's toxic as hell. But intoxicating, too. It triggers this strong boyhood sense memory. So yeah, I'm happy.

I both love and hate you Fred. I have my planetstrike terrain and Dark Agenls tower thing I need to Chaosify to make a table for my basement. *sigh* someday.

The madness continues. Despair deepens. Daemons continue to gnaw on the fabric of reality. New hosts, new vessels....

Until now, I haven't developed many Slaaneshi elements of the Harrowed. In part, because of a lack of conversion ideas, and in part for narrative reasons. The Harrowed's storyline does begin with a pact among four greater daemons, representing each of the four Powers. A Keeper of Secrets, Ululaar, did countenance the creation of this daemonic abomination. [S]he covenanted a pack of Fiends to the host, and [s]he does track its fortunes. But I picture this creature as a proud demi-god, aloof, profoundly wary of the experiment. [S]he has been waiting to see how it fares, before committing more fully to the project.

Now (in my imagined storyline), [s]he perceives that [s]he cannot stay on the sidelines. The Harrowed are becoming a powerful instrument of war -- to powerful to be left in the hands of rival powers. Ululaar now feels compelled to play h[er]is hand in this game.

That's the narrative thinking. Conversion-wise, I still don't know exactly what to do to create Harrowed-style, possessed Imperial Guard "daemonettes." I may just use GW 'nettes (the 3d edition ones), reasoning that Ululaar will not deign to let her daemon-soldiers take the field in any form as imperfect, as flawed, as a mortal shell would be.

But I have to try something, right? So I've started work on a Slaaneshi Prince:

Like the other major manifestations of the Harrowed (greater daemons, daemon princes), this conversion is sentinel-based. Full manifestation within the ranks of the Host, for leading daemonic entities, requires the anchoring of a mortal vessel of iron and blood.

But as I see it, Ululaar (and h[er]is lieutenant/emissary princes) will insist on possessing their host vessels on their own terms. So in this case, the daemon will twine with the remains of the sentinel, taking form as a nest of serpents. Daemon limbs, coils, tentacles and so on will wrap around the sentinel legs. All other parts of the original vehicle (it's cabin, its weapons, its pilot) have been consumed and discarded.

This is only the beginning. I will be weaving in a lot of greenstuff. I will trim off parts of the sentinel legs and feet, to create space for more organic, daemonic tissue.

To start with, I've been pinning and gluing the creature, trying to create a stable architecture out of what is so far a top-heavy and quite precarious rig. So, imagine coils of snakey daemon stuff wrapping around the legs, weaving in and out of the iron and hydraulics and pistons. As I said, I want this thing to look like a nest of snakes -- and at the same time as a single, sinuous, graceful, utterly lethal entity.

More to come. And in the meantime, thanks for looking.

Well, after today, Fred and his horrifying, delicious conversions are probably dead to us... we played hooky today and played a game at Hobby Bunker, and Fred was late getting home... and the rest is probably too horrible to think about....

Ouch. This is why you should sneak off places with the unmarried. No wives or kids depending on them.

As for Fred's conversion: I'm really happy that Slaanesh is showing up in greater numbers in your army. While I hate Slaanesh for the whole Eldar thing, I am a fan of hedonistic pleasures taken to extremes.

But Fred. Buddy. Really? A lack of conversion ideas for Slaanesh? You have a bloody vagina with wings for a Khorne bloodthirster. And you couldn't come up with ideas for Slaanesh?

You should google "tentacle hentai" sometime, it will disgust and fascinate you I'm sure, while giving some good ideas for Slaaneshi demons Smile

Slaanesh is about more than just boobs and vagina's -

It is deceit wrapped in hope and smooth skin curving into a claw. Pleasure, torturous pleasure embracing rapturous death.

I think this may be one of Fred's most interesting and difficult conversions.

Seriously, converting Dark Eldar is an ordeal but rewarding (or so I'm told).

Fred, how much of the sentinel part, specifically the "pelvis", will be covered? Because right now, the sentinel legs make the whole thing look backward. Birdlike, which is good, but backward, like the head is facing the wrong way.

Could you lose the "axle" sentinel part altogether, and maybe just greenstuff the Tzeench demon body directly to the legs? It might be too hard to do, but would it be cool and dynamic to have one of the sentinel legs up off the ground, in a horrible mockery of a bird stomping or kicking/striking?

See, I just assumed he's going to put a giant dick (and no, I don't mean a replication of Cody's face) sticking out off it.

and then hang shit off it, like chains, little familiars and a big sign that says "I Fuck for Free!"
