Okay, big update inbound.
I had to put a lot of hold because of terrain construction. With the Overgrown table done and the Fortified City assembled and primed, I took a little bit of time off from those projects and worked again on some =][= pieces.
Plus, LGM just got me the last 10 Stormtroopers, so I am really motivated to hit the field with this army, which, I think will happen a week from Thursday.
I got to basing the 10 plasma vets/IST that LGM did up for me.
Mike did some really nice freehand on all of them, but I really like the helmet design on the sergeant.
So, anyways, all the Grey Knight stuff is complete. 18 PAGK and 6 Terminators makes for a lot of points, a lot of stormbolter shots and a lot of Str 6 ccw attacks. Hopeful they will usually be Str 7. (Straken FC bonus)
Here's the second unit of 10 PAGK. They pack 2 incinerators and eventually will ride in style in a =][= looking Vendetta.
I think the white of the incinerator is a nice contrast to the red of the stormbolters and black of the psycannons.
Up next, the Terminators.
I really like how they came out, but I am deathly afraid to do the freehand work on their heraldic shields and such.... I may try one, but I think they look clean, if incomplete to a trained eye.
So that completes a solid chunk of the army. I am not too sure about the effectiveness of so many PAGK, but I hope with Staken and the cover saves of those brave guardsmen it may just work out.
Overall, I love how the army is fitting together. The colors of the force are simple: white, black, silver and red. Each internal faction displays one as its main color, the GKs with the silver, the IST with black. My Company Command section is coming out very red. The guardsmen actually seem to fit because that are everything mashed up and overall nothing special. Kinda fitting.
Team photo, so far.
But what about white you ask? Yeah, I just B-town'd for a unit of Sisters. Why not, right? Guess what color their armour will be?
So, back to the piecemeal showing of the Company Command Squad. You've seen the medic, how about the Vox caster?
It's Brain from Schaffer's Last Chancers! Woot! Yeah, he's even got a boom mic just like Ruby Rhod!
Overall I think he's a great fit. I original did his lasgun to match the IG guardsmen, but then I though, why wouldn't he have a lasgun from somewhere else that was his, not borrowed from the locals! So it went to white and again, I like the simple nature of how the army is coming together.
Finally, in Innocence Proves Nothing, a very nice story involving 2 acolytes of 2 different Inquisitors pursuing the same heretical coven, we have a Redemptionist Death Cultist Assassin basically working with the team. In Grey Knights we had the same thing, a clan of Death Cultists (and these ones were vampires, basically) protected another Inquisitor characters. So I said "why not mine?"
So I present to you Staken's 2 bodyguards.
I've always like the minis and glad to get them on the tabletop. Because this is actually a IG army, with the only allies being Grey Knights, I hope that it won't get confusing as to what may be what, but I really can't see it being a problem. _________________ TAFK

If you deployed those assassins with a Grey Knights force I would be hard-pressed to see them as anything but assassins. Especially because they're, y'know, assassins.
Are you sure the Ministorum Assassinorum didn't put them there to "keep an eye on" Straken, in case he gets out of line? |

Shit man. Can't wait to see this whole army on a table. I'm excited for you! Like the assassin bodyguards, it's a nice fluffy touch... too bad Bodyguards' CC abilities suck. _________________ -Mike H. |

Smallish little update....
First up is the completed Platoon Command Squad.
A junior officer, who I think came out pretty cool, 3 Grenade Launchers and a Vox operator. I don't know why but when I was putting together the Vox operators I didn't like the feathers sticking out with all the antennae shit, so I used the Outrider heads instead of the Pistolier heads, which meant beards and such. First, I really like it, then painted up I'm not too sure. Doesn't mean I'm gonna perform surgery on them, just making commentary.
Overall, I like how they came out and blend with the army. With just 5 of them they really don't make too much of a presence next to the 25 Grey Knights or 20 Stormtroopers, but they fit in really well. When the blob of 30 is done I think they will capture the effect I was looking for with my lowly guardsmen.
Next, a while ago I found this great model that I just really, really liked. It was a Reaper Miniatures piece from their sci fi range, called a Chronomancer, or something like that. Then, when the new IG codex came out and Officer of the Fleet was an option, it gave me an excuse to get her, figuring that she was the perfect figure.
As I tried to think up a paint scheme for it, I couldn't stop thinking about a Rogue Trader look. I just pictured her as the Captain or First Officer of some Black Ship that the Inquisition had pressed into service. And instead of being technically an Imperial Navy Officer using the fleet to disrupt the enemy, instead she represents a the numerous tools at an Inquisitor's disposal. Whether its advanced scanning, xeno-technologies, a few shuttles or landers or just a few (off table) strikes from the orbiting Black Vessel, she sums it all up.
The only issue is that Rogue Traders, in their black and crimson that they are common displayed in, look a lot like Commissars as well. So I tossed in some lighter colors, the white of the Michael Jackson glove, or the blond hair, she's a little different looking that my commissars.
Finally, here is another big stretch for my Company Command Squad. Maybe the biggest stretch.
I need some basic veteran guardsmen to fill out the squad. No special weapons, no particular wargear.
But, I need to sell that this is an Inquisitional retinue, not a CCS. So I had always thought that a Xenos race would be awesome to see. So what races would be applicable? Demiurg, Tau? How about Kroot?
I had LGM once convert up a Kroot with a plasma gun. He's still sitting on my shelf waiting to be painted up. And he will be shortly, because if I ever want a Veteran with plasmagun, he's first in (along with the awesome Necromunda Escher Heavy with plasmagun)
I had the pieces laying around for this guy, so I chopped him up and added a bunch of stuff to make him more imperial while less Tau Empire. Some cadian armor, a flintlock pistol in homage to Predator II, and a few more bits and I think I have a really cool addition to the squad.
One of my favorite things about him is how tall he is after being chopped and greenstuffed. He towers over the other humans in the squad, which is fitting, cause Kroot are tall.
Lastly, here is a shot of almost all of the company command squad, minus one veteran guardsman and Straken, who will probably be making an appearance next update....

Wow, That reaper mini looks great -- skin tone looks awesome and you did a great job on the eyes (not usually partial to the white then black dot -- but you pulled it off well), top notch. _________________ Any young lads around here interested in some high adventure! |

Like 'em! I especially like the junior officer. They're certainly not like anyone elses inductees.
I'd put Flesh Wash on the human's faces, then hightlight with some Sunny Skintone. (I have more luck actually painting the highlights on the brows, cheekbones, and chin, rather than trying to dry brush the highlights on such small features.) _________________ Ever kick somebody in the 'nads? It's Sascha DuBois from the Chronoscope line.
I have one sitting on my shelf to be painted. |

Great job on the Officer of the Fleet. I didn't even think Commissar until you mentioned it, and even then you differentiated the model enough.
Love the Kroot! Obviously.
The Inquisitor (CCS) looks fucking great so far. I'm really digging it. All the models are somewhat unique but all blend and fit so well together. Between model, size, pose, and color you did a great job pinning them as individuals and as a unit at the same time.
The platoon command looks god though the officers long white coat is a bit too drag in my opinion. A simple I, transfer, or checker! could go a long way in my opinion. Regardless the squad looks characterful. The bearded Vox guys doesn't bother me in the least. Shit... they're working for the =I=, as long as they get the job done some of the more draconian policies can be overlooked (especially seeing as your Inquisitor is employing Kroot...) _________________ -Mike H. |

Yeah, so I need some help.
I am gathering together my stuff to get the Penal Legion Beastmen Catachans of Doom.
When you get the unit you get 9 Penal Legionnares and 1 "Custodian"
What do you think the Custodian should be? I have numerous thoughts, none of which grab me.
First, do a Arbite, basically a Turnkey pushing his charges forward...
Maybe a minotaur, basically the big Chief of the Clan leading his men...
an Inquisitor (or Acolyte) leading them in. Problem is I don't like any of the acolyte models, and all the Inquisitor models are too badass to really fit. (though I would love to use one of the female big hair bitches, I do like those models)
some dark cloaked fool, like the Dark Emissary from the Albion WFB campaign...
thoughts? _________________ TAFK

Maybe an arbites on a horse with shotgun? Kinda surprised I haven't seen that yet.
Personally I'd just take one of the beastmen models, and just sculpt a pacifier helm on him (like the arco kind). It's simple, it'll set him apart, and it will imply that the leader is mind controlled or has a bomb in his brain or whatever. _________________ -Mike H. |

| I like the idea of an arbite on a horse, but then you are really changing the size of the base, so maybe just one of the old Arbites, even the guy with the eagle on his head. |
