A couple quick questions-

Am I tied to the army I submit? I am torn between my Death Guard and Servants of Slaughter (IA6 Vraks 2 list) and what I bring depends on the state of my renegade guard.

A comment more so than a question- the link for the army template seems to be broken.

You are not tied to the army you sign up. You can sign up for one army and switch to another. Army played will be the third tie breaker for initial match ups. (after group affiliation and judged comp)

and the other issue is being worked on.

Hey guys, Paul Thresher here. The even is a short walk from my new apartment and I needed a reason to paint up more salamanders. I'll be representing a different club this time, EvilDice40k out of Malden's Hobby Bunker. We're fairly new and play on Sundays cause of most people's 9-5. Can't wait to see you guys again and hopefully stomp ya's good! or get stomped, whatever comes first.

The forum is up now http://www.evildice40k.com/forum/. It would be great if you guys came and checked it out or even the bunker. I remember spotting some dorka morka gentlemen there but couldn't place the names. Again, can't wait to be a part of this and to play some good games.

Oh, thanks for the invite, where exactly do you guys play now? It's not the same spot as the tournament, is it? I hope so, I'd love some good beer while moving my little space men.

Hi there. I'm thinking about registering for the tourny, but all the ones that I've been to in the past haven't had soft scores, and, well, I haven't heard good things about them in the past. Would it be possible to get a rundown of how the soft scores will be judged, and how much they'll be worth? I'm particularly interested in the comp score, and how that works.

Thanks in advance, and please don't take the above to be knocking soft scores or those that use them. I just want to figure out how the tournament will run before signing up and making the drive.

*Edit* I've been poking around the forums, and it seems that some of you have been coming down to Veterans for the tournaments they've been having. Not sure if you've seen me around, but I'm the one that's been running the Sisters list with all the Immolators. If you've seen the list, would you expect me take a big comp hit?

Greetings, Banosby,

Member Droolbucket is one of the masterminds behind the current tournament, and so he could perhaps speak more about percentages of how much soft scores will count, and you can also follow the link mentioned earlier in this thread to the event announcement which will tell you which scores add up to win each tournie award.

As to our "soft score" philosophy, we like soft scores because it encourages full-immersion 40K. Some of our members are the strongest generals around, and can run the hardest, winningest list around. But many of us put hours upon hours of time and effort painting and thinking about our armies, and how the army might have evolved into what you see in its army list. Unpainted plastic and metal makes us cringe. Partly assembled models and the latest Internet WAAC list makes us a bit surly. I think everybody agrees its more fun to play a fully (or mostly, or even in progress--maybe you're a terrible painter, but you made the effort to paint your whole army, and that counts for something!) painted army, and one that is balanced, rather than optimized/min-maxed to table your opponent by turn 3 and make him wish he'd just stayed home and watched TV instead.

You asked about the Sisters list "with all the Immolators"--which makes me assume you know you've built a list with more immolators than most people enjoy playing against. I'd encourage you to post the list in our Armies, Tactica, Battle Reports, and List Critique thread. You'll get pretty straight forward, no punches pulled advice. We've got several Sisters players who can offer up opinions. If you have lots of immolators simply because lots of immolators always win games, rather than lots of immolators because that's what a Sisters force would "realistically" field, then yes, I'd say your comp score would take a hit in a Dorka Morka tournament.

Reading Dakka Dakka, and B&C, and other sites, you can see that definitions of what's fluffy, or balanced, or cheese, varies wildly. And some just don't even care about that stuff at all. Sportsmanship can take a far backseat to your win/loss ratio, depending on your play philosophy. But here in our little corner of the galaxy, we like "soft" scores, and we think they're important.

Even if you decide you don't agree with us on everything, we do dig the fact that you posted here, and we hope you continue to do so.

Mastermind? more like Chief Moron.

The scoring system is basically 50% battle points, 50% soft score, with the 50% being divided evenly between sportsmanship, composition and painting.

So, if you are looking to win Best Overall, you will need a fine balance of a solid army list that's well painted, well themed and played like a Beer and Pretzel game than a WAAC game.

As Noblesavage pointed out, we are promoting WH40K as a social event, not a strict competition. Our goal is to bring together people from the Greater Boston Area to show off our new location, play 40K, hang out and have a few drinks. We aren't in it to hand out cash prizes, support a business or fostering competitive 40K.

That's just us. Others can offer a more competitive environment.

Dorka tournaments and events tend to be very challenging. I'll explain why.

Tactical savvy is only a small fraction of the game. Largely, you can win tournaments by a combination of some tactical savvy, and a broken list.

If you show up with a broken list to our tournaments, you will have a crappy time, and so will your opponents. And even if you get the most wins, you won't win any prizes. Why? Because our goal is to have fun.

I don't mean "play like an idiot". I mean winning while having fun in an immersive 40K experience. That's hard.

But it's very rewarding. And it'll keep you coming back, to face opponents with gorgeous armies that are balanced and tough on the battlefield, and who you would love to hang out and have a drink with after the game.

Alex
